Allianz Travel Insurance: Multiple Trip/Annual Plan
5 Reasons Why You Should Consider Allianz Travel Insurance for your Family!
“If you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel!” This is one of the top tips I give anyone who asks me about traveling. And my personal recommendation is Allianz Travel Insurance, and especially their Multiple Trip Travel Insurance because it is so easy.
Instead of having to worry about buying travel insurance for every single trip, for every single flight and for every single hotel, you just buy the annual travel insurance plan once and forget about it for the rest of the year. Easy, simple, and if you travel a few times a year, even on short trips, it might be the cheapest option as well!
But let’s start at the beginning and look at some reasons why the Allianz travel insurance annual plan might be something that you should consider for yourself and your family!
1. Why you need Travel Insurance at all?
Like I said before, I follow the rule that if I cannot afford travel insurance, I cannot afford to travel. It is that simple. Yes, in most countries, medical costs are much lower than in the United States, but it can still go into the tens of thousands if you have a major issue. And the last thing you want to worry about if you are sick in a foreign country is money, right?
While I have been lucky in the past couple of year and did not need to file a claim, I remember vividly how grateful I was for my travel insurance, when my wisdom teeth decided to act up while living in China. I was able to book an appointment in a modern clinic with English speaking dentists on short notice, have my wisdom teeth removed, and after submitting my claim, I received my money within a few weeks.
2. You save money!
Depending on how many trips you take, you can save a lot of money with a multiple trip travel insurance by Allianz. Of course, comparing various insurance quotes and providers is a science in itself, as they rarely offer the same benefits and depend largely on your age and the state you live in. It is really hard to make a fair comparison and avoid comparing apples to oranges.
I just did a search for myself: I went through a flight reservation for a domestic round-trip ticket from Los Angeles to New York for $300. The recommended trip insurance was quoted for $21. For an international flight from Los Angeles to Frankfurt for just over $ 1000, I was quoted $69 for flight insurance. However, it only covers my ticket if I or my travel companion are too sick to travel and we have documentation from a doctor. Nothing else.
With Allianz, the cheapest plan starts at only $ 125/year, but I recommend the Prime Plan for $ 249/year for regular travelers, while business travelers or frequent travelers should consider the Executive Plan starting at $ 459. On the Prime Plan, you don’t just get a full year of trip cancellation coverage (up to $2000/year and a variety of reasons, not just sickness), but also a whole list of additional benefits, including Medical insurance abroad, lost baggage and more (please read the fine print before buying).
TIP: To compare the various plans, go to “Get a Quote” and fill out your information. Then it will show you a comparison of what is covered under each plan and how much it will cost you. You don’t even have to give them your email address!
Remember that the actual costs depend on a few factors and always read the fine print of what is covered by your insurance. Allianz Travel Insurance does a very good job on their website and explains the exact coverage for each category and their value. They list all the benefits for each plan, so you can compare the best option for your needs.
3. You don’t risk forgetting to buy travel insurance
If you are anything like me, you get excited when you finally hit the “Book Now” button. It is easy to remember to buy travel insurance if you book an all-inclusive trip, but if you travel independently, it becomes a little more tricky. You have to get travel insurance for pretty much every booking independently, which can be quite time-consuming and a hassle.
Allianz Travel Insurance, and especially their annual plan makes it so much easier. You buy it once and you are covered for all trips within the next year. This makes booking flights and hotels a breeze and you know that you don’t have to worry about forgetting to buy travel insurance.
Another bonus of the annual plan is that it covers everything. I personally don’t have experience with this, but Geoffrey Morrison wrote in an article in Forbes and states that with individual trip insurance, Allianz only covers whatever you book before you leave for your trip. So if you want to be a bit more spontaneous, the annual plan definitely is worth considering.
4. Get Coverage for Medical as well as other “Travel Problems”
But the best part about the annual Allianz Travel Insurance plan that it covers so much more than trip cancelation. It covers lost or delayed luggage, travel delays and interruptions, rental car collision and loss/damage insurance, and most importantly: Medical coverage.
Dealing with your health insurance provider can be quite a pain, especially if you have a “special case” that doesn’t fit into their questionnaire checkboxes. Sometimes I feel that I can call 3 times and get 3 different answers about my coverage and in the end, I still get a bill. And from my experience, most insurance plans are not very friendly to frequent travelers. Just traveling to the next state over can be a hassle and add out-of-network and other expenses to your medical bill.
With Allianz Travel Insurance, you don’t have to worry about whether the doctor you see is in-network or out-of-network. If you have an accident or emergency during your trip, you get treated, pay and then submit your claim and get reimbursed. Easy and fast.
5. You save time!
Like I said, buying Multi Trip insurance is a big time saver. Instead of comparing quotes each and every time you book a trip, debating in your head whether you should get insurance for this trip or not – even though this should never be up for debate, it will still be on your mind as you go through the booking process!
And after all, thinking about the likelihood of all the bad things that could happen during your trip kind of takes the fun away from booking, doesn’t it?
Single Trip vs Multi Trip Travel Insurance
If you only travel 1-2 times per year and your trips are very affordable, buying Multi Trip Travel Insurance is most likely not the best choice for you and I think you might be better off with Allianz Single Trip Insurance, but keep in mind that it only covers the expenses that you had before you left on the trip, which leaves not much room for spontaneous exploring.
But if you have 1-2 international trips and a few domestic ones each year, the multiple trip insurance is probably a good option for you. Take a look your past travel patterns into account and add in concrete plans you already have for the coming year and see if it makes sense for you.
