Where To Stay in Milan, Italy

Because Milan’s city center is relatively small and holds a wealth of hotels at all price points, there is no excuse for staying in a hotel that doesn’t meet your needs and expectations. From budget lodging to five-star apartments, Milan’s hotels are within easy walking distance to its most important sights. Hotel star ratings are determined by a public standard in Italy (as they are in Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, etc.) and are based on objective facts, e.g., whether there is a Jacuzzi in every room. Whereas, hotel star ratings in the United States are determined by independent review companies, such as AAA or Michelin Guide, each with their own rating systems. While star ratings are a good way to gauge a hotel’s quality, they do not reflect more personalized elements, such as charm and ambiance. The star ratings below are the official government ratings. Here’s a list of my favorite accommodations in Milan, from the most luxurious to the most economical.

5- Star Hotels in Milan

Grand Hotel Et De Milan 5-star
The timeless décor, featuring precious paintings and dramatic drapes, immediately sweeps you into the luxury of  Old World Italy. The document that ended slavery in Brazil was signed here. Regarded as one of the world’s best small hotels, it is located on one of Milan’s most important shopping streets. However, it is not modern, and those looking for contemporary 5-star comfort might want to look elsewhere. Rooms  boast balconies, marble baths, fancy woodwork, and well appointed living rooms.

A first- rate staff makes sure that everything is provided for, including help in planning your travels. This hotel is literally surrounded by Milan’s best shopping is all around you.

4-Star Hotels in Milan

Doria Grand Hotel 4-star
Particularly ideal for business travelers, this hotel features modern comforts at a great price. It is close to the financial district, the central train station, and the Piazza Duomo is just a 15-minute walk. Exceptionally clean rooms and good transportation can make you overlook the slightly disorganized management. It has very high standards for cleanliness. A wide variety of public transportation options are nearby.

3-Star Hotels in Milan

Hotel Canada 3-star
This hotel is located near the University of Milan in a hip, young neighborhood filled with bars and great, inexpensive food. Piazza Duomo is a five- to ten-minute walk. The quality of service, cleanliness, and a relaxed atmosphere (it has a trendy bar) makes this feel more like a four-star hotel than a three-star. Parking costs are cheap at 18 € per day.
