Where to Stay in Bordeaux

One of France’s larger cities, Bordeaux offers a great selection of ‘where to stay’ options, from five-star hotels to family-friendly B&Bs imbued with Bordeaux’s wine-culture style. Whereas in many areas of France, you cannot find truly luxurious accommodations worthy of the five-star designation, Bordeaux offers a solid selection, and the following list of ‘where to stay’ recommendations is organized by star rating, beginning with five-star hotels and ending with a list of budget accommodations.

When choosing where to stay in Bordeaux, note that these hotels were selected based on their overall quality and proximity to the heart of the city.

5-Star Hotels in Bordeaux

Le Grand Hotel de BordeauxInterContinental Bordeaux – Le Grand Hotel
If you’re looking for accommodations fit for a king, this elegant hotel projects Old-World style and class and is located in downtown Bordeaux—right across from the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux. All of the rooms, junior suites, and suites feature air conditioning, marble bathrooms with heated floors, Anne Sémonin luxury guest products, and free WiFi.

Onsite dining and bar options include the fine-dining Le Pressoir d’Argent Gordon Ramsay, a two-star Michelin restaurant. Plus the Le Bordeaux restaurant, The Orangerie, which offers a small food and drink menu inside of a glassed-in garden, and the rooftop bar, open seasonally. Amenities include a complimentary gym and The Spa Guerlain, which occupies the top three floors of the hotel. Note that some rooms are on the small side and you will want to be sure to request a room with a view of the opera house.

Hotel BurdigalaHotel Burdigala
This luxurious hotel excels at providing friendly service and modern amenities. It’s decorated with regal furniture and velvet and taffeta fabrics. Though it has received a five-star ranking, it does not offer a swimming pool or spa, but does have a newly added fitness room. Each room comes with complimentary WiFi, air conditioning, and coffee and tea-making facilities. Amenities include the delicious Madame B, which serves authentic comfort food.

The hotel is a bit further from the city center (about a 10 to 15 minute walk), and as a result, the hotel is nice and quiet. Note that the hotel lacks an elevator, so you may wish to book a room on the first floor.

4-Star Hotels in Bordeaux

Seeko’o Hotel Bordeaux
This hotel is Bordeaux’s only four-star design hotel and is easily identified with its white exterior reminiscent of an iceberg in downtown Bordeaux. Its selection of suites and rooms feature ultra-modern décor, complimentary WiFi,  air conditioning, and luxury bathroom products. Amenities and services include 24-hour reception, organic breakfast, and an onsite spa, with steam room and sauna.

Pullman Bordeaux AquitaniaPullman Bordeaux Lac
With 166 rooms, this hotel will appeal to those looking for modern furnishings and amenities, while also providing a comfortable stay close to Bordeaux Lake for a good price. The hotel is a 15 to 20 minute walk from the city center, and will particularly appeal to those touring France and its wine regions by car, as you won’t have to navigate central Bordeaux to reach the hotel. It is also just a short drive or complimentary shuttle ride from the airport.

Each room features air conditioning and complimentary WiFi. The onsite L’Aquitania Restaurant comes with views of the lake, and the L’Aquitania Bar provides a large selection of cocktails. There’s a rooftop pool and a solarium, too. Stay here for the friendly staff, but you may want to choose another hotel if you do not want to stay in Bordeaux’s business area.

Le Saint JamesHotel Le Saint-James
Though located in Bouliac, seven miles outside of Bordeaux, this modern hotel offers a foodie experience that’s worth considering, especially if you plan on spending a lot of time on the road in wine country. With plenty of large windows, many of the 18 rooms come with views of the nearby park and vineyards, and nature is a primary inspiration for the room design, creating a romantic and zen-like atmosphere.

The main focus of the business is the onsite restaurant, Le Saint James, which serves innovative dishes inspired by local, seasonal produce and has a great wine list. As a result, fine food and drink will surround you, but the hotel will not offer 24-hour reception. Amenities include an outdoor pool, garden, complimentary coffee and pastries, and a cooking school.

3-Star Hotels in Bordeaux

Ibis Bordeaux CenterIbis Bordeaux Centre Bastide
Located just across the river from the action, this hotel is connected to downtown Bordeaux by Pont de Pierre and is ideal for those seeking a comfortable, basic stay for a low price.

The 92 rooms, which come with free WiFi, display the typical comfort of the Ibis hotel chain: nothing fancy—just modern and comfortable. A good onsite breakfast is available for an additional, low charge.

Quality Hotel Bordeaux Centre
Smack dab in the middle of Bordeaux, this convenient hotel provides modern décor and amenities and the staff is particularly helpful when it comes to helping you get the most out of your stay in Bordeaux. The 82 rooms come with air conditioning and complimentary WiFi, and a sumptuous buffet breakfast is available. Those particularly sensitive to noise should book a room in the back of the hotel.

Chateau la MouneChateau La Moune
Located in a castle-like estate in Montussan about 10 miles from Bordeaux, it’s ideal for those who want to stay near Bordeaux in the French countryside. There’s plenty to explore inside the building, including sitting rooms, and the grounds are expansive and are adorned with classic sculptures.

Rooms are spacious and carefully decorated to provide an Old-World feel, and the onsite breakfast is rustic but homemade. Also find an outdoor pool, small gym with cardio equipment, and cozy bar.

Budget Accommodations in Bordeaux

This hotel, located on the right bank of the Garonne River, offers comfortable rooms and friendly service for a great price, and you only have to walk across the Pont de Pierre to reach the city center. The 14 rooms are clean, quiet, basic and let a lot of light in. Each comes with free WiFi, and a simple breakfast is available for an additional charge.
