When in Paris, I usually opt for a 4-star hotel. Rooms tend to be a bit larger and the bathrooms are better equipped. Here are our favorite 4 star hotels in Paris, listed for each arrondissement.

The 1st Arrondissement is in the very heart of the city. It is walking distance to most tourist sites and therefore is more expensive. Some fabulous hotels are located here; but we have found a few less expensive gems as well. Here are our top picks in the 1st arrondissement for 4 Star Hotel in Paris:

The Second Arrondissement is in the heart of Paris, close to everything, including the Louvre, the gorgeous Opera Garnier, fabulous shopping, and great restaurants.

Best 4 Star Hotels in Paris’s 4th Arrondissement

The Fourth Arrondissement lies along the Seine and on the Ile St. Louis.  It, along with the 3rd Arrondissement, make up the area known as the Marais. Considered the arts district, it is also home to a sizable Jewish population.

Top Paris 4 Star Hotels: 5th Arrondissement

The fifth Arrondissement is located on the left bank (rive gauche). It is also known as the Latin Quarter because the Sorbonne, where students studied Latin at one time, is in this area. A colorful neighborhood, the Latin Quarter is made up of winding cobblestone streets lined with little shops and restaurants.

The 6th Arrondissement is known as St-Germain-des-Pres because the church of that name is a landmark in the area. Great for shopping and dining, this area is lively and upscale. It also offers proximity to the glorious Luxembourg Gardens. Don’t even consider leaving Paris without a stroll through the Luxembourg Gardens.

The hotel offers free wifi, and rooms at Le Madison Hotel offer a mini bar, an iPod docking station, and with free tea and coffee-making facilities.

The location is ideal since it is steps to the St Germain des Pres Metro Station and a short walk to the Musee du Louvre, the Musee d’Orsay, and Jardin du Luxembourg. We partook in the hotel’s ample breakfast bar, but there are many other dining options in the area. The Hotel is situated on the busy Boulevard Saint-Germain, but our room was blissfully quiet.

The Seventh Arrondissement is known as the Invalides because it is home to the gold-domed Invalides, a former hospital. The area hosts military museums, Napoleon’s tomb, the D’Orsay museum, and the Eiffel Tower.

The eighteenth arrondissement, best known for Montmartre, was the center of the flourishing artist community from around 1907 to 1914. Picasso, Dali, Duchamp, Toulouse-Latrec, and others lived and worked here. The 18th is also the home of a thriving ethnic community in the east and a seedy red-light district along Boulevard de Clichy near Place Pigalle.
